The last ten days have mostly revolved around the IAAF World Athletics Championships which have been on in London at the Olympic London Stadium. After watching the opening night of the athletics at home last week Friday, I spent most of Saturday thrown off on the couch with the final of the Super Rugby between the Lions and the Crusaders on the TV, which unfortunately the Lions lost 25-17. After the rugby, we then switched over to the evening session of day 2 of the athletics to watch. Considering how rainy and miserable the day was, a full day of sport on the TV worked out well :) Sunday was another relaxing day at home watching the athletics and the marathon, but at least the weather had improved and we managed to fire up the Weber and braai a tasty rack of lamb for dinner in the evening.

After a fairly quiet start to last week, mainly just us at home watching the athletics, Uns had booked us into dinner at The Roof Deck Restaurant on top of Selfridges on Thursday night. So after work I headed over to Oxford Street, met Uns in Selfridges and after a quick walk around inside we headed up to the roof for our dinner. It's a Californian-style restaurant which opened back in April and perfect for the summer evenings to dine al fresco under the open sky. After a nice dinner there, we decided to take a walk and sit in Trafalgar Square for a while before heading home.

On Friday I left work at lunch time and headed through to Denmark Hill where I met up with Uns. After stopping in at Kings, we then headed home and stopped off at the Blackbird Bakery for some cakes for mid afternoon coffee and cake at home.

After a busy Saturday around the house, I eventually got my braai ramp finished - took a lot longer to complete than I had planned, but mainly due to a lack of free time. Still, it's finished now and working as expected :) Yesterday morning we took a walk down to Peckham Rye to the Farmers Market and then spent most the morning and afternoon relaxing away in the garden enjoying the sun, followed by a late afternoon braai, again :)

After our braai, we headed off to Stratford to the London Stadium for the closing night of the IAAF World Athletics Championships. After having watched almost all ten days of the competition on TV, it was good to have managed to get tickets to the last session, and see out the closing night.

Since it was the final night there, all the competitions were the finals, with a few medal ceremonies in between. Both South Africa and Great Britain did alright on the night, with SA picking up a gold in the 800m women's race, and then GB picking up bronze and silver medals in both the 4x400m men's and women's races. After the last race of the night, Usain Bolt did a lap of honour around the stadium, waving goodbye to the crowds which was quite emotional to see the last of him, considering what a big part of the sport he has been for the past decade!

After Bolt's farewell lap and the last of the medal ceremonies, we took an easy walk back to the station and headed home. Glad we got to go on the final night, been so involved with it over the past ten days, not quite sure what we're going to watch on TV this coming week now that it's over with...
